Belmont Estate und die Grenada Chocolate Company

Ich besuchte die malerisch in den Bergen gelegene, historische Plantage Belmonte Estate. Die Geschichte dieses Anwesens reicht bis ins 17. Jahrhundert zurück (Kaffeeanbau). Heutzutage bilden Kakao und Muskatnuss die Haupterwerbsquellen. In Kooperation mit der Plantage Belmont Estate produziert die Grenada Chocolate Company Schokolade. Die Kakaobohnen werden auf einer Fläche von 40 Hektar auf dem Gelände von Belmont Estate nach streng ökologischen Kriterien angebaut und sofort nach der Ernte selbst verarbeitet. Die kleine Schokoladenfabrik ist damit eines der seltenen Unternehmen, das seine köstlichen Erzeugnisse direkt vor Ort herstellt. Die Produktionsmaschinen sind schon Antik, werden aber mit ganz viel Solarenergie betrieben. Danach ging es quer durch den Regenwald Grand Etang wieder nach St. George´s.
